Terms of service
Eligibility and acceptance
You must be at least 18, be able to enter a binding agreement where you live, and accept these Terms and the Privacy Notice to create an account. Do not use the service where doing so is unlawful.
The service
The Sputtering Candle is a collaborative, AI-assisted role-playing game. Generated narration can be incorrect, unexpected, or temporarily unavailable. The deterministic rules engine—not generated prose—is authoritative for mechanical game state. Features, rules, and adventures may change as the service develops.
Your account and campaigns
Provide accurate information, protect your password, and do not share access. Campaign invitations are personal unless the host intentionally creates a multi-use invitation. You may not access another campaign without authorization or probe, disrupt, scrape, reverse engineer, or automate abuse of the service.
Membership and billing
Stripe shows the price, interval, tax, trial, and renewal terms before purchase. A membership renews until canceled through the billing portal. Access may continue for a short grace period after failed payment. Refund requests should be sent to the support address; applicable consumer-law rights are not limited by these Terms.
Player content
You retain rights you hold in original character descriptions and messages. You grant the operator a limited license to host, process, display, transmit, back up, and moderate that content as needed to provide and protect the service. Do not submit material you lack the right to use or sensitive real-world personal or financial information.
Safety and enforcement
Follow the Community Rules and respect other players’ boundaries. We may remove content, revoke campaign access, suspend accounts, or preserve evidence when reasonably necessary to protect players, the service, costs, or lawful operation. Serious or repeated violations may result in termination.
Availability and liability
The service is provided with reasonable care but without a promise of uninterrupted availability or error-free AI output. To the extent permitted by law, the operator is not responsible for indirect or consequential loss. Nothing here excludes liability or consumer rights that cannot legally be excluded.
Changes and governing terms
Material changes will use a new Terms version and may require renewed acceptance. These Terms are governed by the laws applicable in the configured jurisdiction, subject to mandatory rights where you live.
Contact
Questions, cancellation issues, or refund requests can be sent to the support address.
